The cherry hill at the foot of Mont Blanc
Discover the contribution of our cherry trees to reducing environmental impact.
On the hill that lies to the left of the Skyway station, when looking at Mont Blanc, wild cherry trees once grew.
With the 'Adopt a Cherry Tree' project, Skyway Monte Bianco, in partnership with CVA Energie and RAV (Raccordo Autostradale Valdostano), has decided to repopulate the hill by planting the cherry trees that once grew there, restoring its ancient and natural image, and giving everyone the spectacle of cherry blossoms with the backdrop of eternal snow.
This is an ambitious and meaningful initiative aimed at bringing greenery and oxygen back to the foot of Mont Blanc and combating the effects of global warming on glaciers, as part of the #savetheglacier project.
Thanks to the joint efforts of Skyway Monte Bianco, visitors, and supporters of this project, about 300 cherry trees have been planted from 2019 to today, helping to mitigate the impact of global warming on glaciers. By carefully studying the shrubs in the coming years, it will be possible to assess significant amounts of CO2 captured, with an estimated 5 tons of CO2eq compensated annually thanks to this hill.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in reaching this goal.
Follow our future initiatives of the #savetheglacier project to support and contribute to the protection of our planet. Together, we can make a difference in ensuring that Mont Blanc continues to inspire and captivate future generations.
